Rita Jean Morse Rita Jean Morse

Rita Jean Morse, aged 72, of Summerside, Prince Edward Island passed away at Prince County Hospital on the morning of May 21, 2016.
Jeannie, as she was known to family and friends, was born October 27, 1943 in Canavoy, Prince Edward Island and was a blessing to all who crossed her path. A quiet and diminutive woman, she contained immense reservoirs of virtue: love, generosity, wit, brilliance, beauty. She dazzled as a young woman, compiling a remarkable academic record. She went off to make her way in the world as a teacher. For most of her life, she journeyed west, first to Montreal, then to Brandon and Winnipeg, and finally to Edmonton. It was in Brandon that she met and was married to her beloved husband Jim and in Winnipeg that she bore her children, Charles and Nicole. It was in the West that she achieved her most perfect success, as wife and mother without peer. As the new century approached and her children left home, she retraced her steps to Prince Edward Island, where she and Jim became the proprietors of a bed and breakfast in Summerside. Only in the last few years did she truly retire, and much of that time she spent in her childhood home in the company of her dear sisters and kindred spirits Ellen Jane and Bernadette and her darling dog Brannigan.
Jeannie is survived by several of those mentioned—husband Jim Morse, son Charles Morse, daughter Nicole Morse-Pomroy, sisters Ellen Jane MacPhee and Bernadette Ferguson, and also by brother Allan MacPhee and sister Patsy Joyce. She is grandmother to five: Morgan Pomroy, William Pomroy, Aidan Pomroy, Raine Pomroy, and McKenna Morse.
Nine of her brothers and sisters predeceased her: Angus MacPhee, Allan MacPhee (infant), Duncan MacPhee, Theresa Le Bute, Mary Doggett, Mary C. Smith, Miriam Gross, Joseph MacPhee, and Catherine “Louise” Mulholland. Her father Hugh John MacPhee and mother Gladys MacPhee also predeceased her.
Visitation will take place at the Church of St. Theresa, the Little Flower at 73 Little Flower Avenue, Morell, from 6 to 9 p.m. on the evening of May 24. A funeral mass will be held at the same church the next day, May 25, at 2 p.m., with burial to follow at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Mt.Stewart. The family encourages gifts in Jeannie’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society and extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Prince County Hospital in Summerside.
Completed funeral arrangements have been entrusted to North Shore Funeral Home, Morell.
