As we announce the passing of John Vincent Nichol of Blackland, we the Family realize how fortunate we have been to have him with us all these years. John passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the age of 95. Born in Blackland January 30, 1921, he was the son of the late William Angus and Martha Lillian (Miller) Nichol.

John was a D Day veteran of the 63rd Battery, 19th Canadian Army Field Regiment. On February 16, 2015, he was awarded rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour. He served as a Fisheries Officer in the Federal Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans for 22 years, retiring in 1982. John also worked in the forestry industry, he was a mink rancher as well as a commercial fisherman. John was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 70 years.

John is survived by his five children; Rick (Karen) of Blackland, Cathy Nichol (Leo) of Riverview, Marsha Nichol of Edmonton, Nancy Elsliger (John) of Pembroke, ON, Gord (Sara) of Winnipeg; eleven grandchildren; nine great‑ grandchildren as well as his brother Donald and sister Viola Diodatti and dear friend Betty Cooling.

He was predeceased by his wife Harriet (Simonson); brothers Dan, Boyd and Bobby and sisters Margaret, Roberta and Lydia.

The family wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the veterans wing in Campbellton as well as the physicians Dr. Bujold and Dr. Ngola for their support and care of our father.

His funeral will be held from Bethel United Church Nash Creek, June 06, 2016 at 1 PM with visitation at MacMillans Funeral Home June 05, 2016 from 7 to 9 in the evening.

Donations to the New Mills Protestant Cemetery or charity of donors choice in memory of John would be appreciated by the family.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillans Funeral Home, Black Point.
