Vielda (Vi) Irene age 87 of Swift Current, SK passed away on May 29, 2016 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday June 6, 2016 from the East Side Church Of God with Pastor Dave Smith officiating. The eulogy was read by Cheryl Fehr, ushers were Bob Bowers and Gilbert Braun, and honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in Vi's life. The interment service was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Vi is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Wes) Fehr and their family Leigh Fehr-Little (Chris Little) and their children Gabby and Graceon, Kristie (Brent) Mackie and their children Jack, Wyatt, and Emmett, Jennifer Fehr and her son Josh, James (Megan) Fehr and their children Everett and Jillian; daughter-in-law Valerie Wightman and her family Sabrina (Byran) Bradshaw and Keith, Nadine (Len) McGean and Caity; sister Glenna Cory; sister-in-law Joyce Jensen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Darryl on March 11, 2009; husband Les on September 5, 2009; parents Ahlburn and Irene Gropp; brothers Ken and Gordon Gropp; sister Ardene Smith; brothers-in-law Alfie, Gordon, and Lewis Wightman, Harry Francis, Art Smith, Lawrence Cory, Bill Jensen, Elmer Lightle, and Dave Carleton; sisters-in-law Marg Lawless, Thelma Francis and Besse Studer, Lou, Leona, and Mary Wightman, Bette Gropp, Violet Carleton. Vi attended Webb, Cantaur and Swift Current Collegiate Schools. On December 7, 1946 she married Leslie Wightman in Medicine Hat, AB. Vi worked at the Bank Of Montreal, the Lyric Theater, the Co-op office, Wightman's Machinery and Social Services. She loved music and played several instruments, she did lovely knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, needlepoint, petite point, she did cross words, puzzles, played cards, loved baking and cooking and was always ready and willing to feed people. Vi was a hard worker and enjoyed her work career. Mom's passing is a loss for our family that we will feel for a long time. Her health started to fail in November of 2015 and she struggled with the loss of freedom and control. She had almost seven years to enjoy her new condo at Riverview and made a new life for herself there after dad's passing.
