Elizabeth (Hill) GREENE. August 5, 1943 - June 3, 2016

“Betty” was born in Reserve Mines, Cape Breton, daughter of the late Simon Francis and Catherine (MacLeod) Hill. A resident of North River, NS and formerly of Chance Harbour Rd, Trenton, NS, as well as numerous military bases in Canada and Germany. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Robert (Bob); son Rob (Pam Halstead), Bedford; granddaughters Meghan and Sarah, Lower Sackville. Also survived by sisters Bridgit (Allan) MacPherson, Newmarket, ON; Catherine Auclair, Ottawa, ON; Evelyn (Michel) St Pierre, North Bay, ON; brothers Simon (Pauline) Hill, Dominion; Mike (Theresa) Hill and Allan Hill, Glace Bay. Predeceased by sisters Margaret Lynk, Mary McNeil, Winifred O'Neil; brothers David, Garfield, Thomas, Samuel and Kevin Hill. Also predeceased by her godmother and special aunt Bessie (MacLeod) McMullin whose family became like Betty’s siblings. Survived by Billy (Lorraine) McMullin, Reserve Mines; Margie McNeil, North Sydney; and predeceased by Danny McMullin, Ritchie MacIntyre and Catherine McMullin. Betty worked in various capacities at St Joseph's Hospital, Glace Bay; Nova Scotia Rehab Centre, Halifax; and Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. She was self taught in a number of crafts but her specialties included crocheting, sewing and homemaking. Her heart went out to children, especially her grandchildren, and to the elderly. She was incredibly proud of her son "Robbie" and his musical accomplishments - especially that he learned to play "Poppy's" fiddle. Her love for old time dancing took her and her husband to many locations in the province. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8 from 7-9pm, with Funeral Service on Thursday, June 9 at 2pm both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. Father Jim O’Connor, officiating. Interment will be in St Joseph's Cemetery, Glace Bay, at a later date. Donations in Betty’s memory made be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
