It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother Jermina ‘Mema’ McKenzie, on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Margaret (MacDonald) and Murray Gallant.
She was retired from the Children’s Training Center where she worked in the laundry. She enjoyed knitting and sewing and going to flea markets and the odd bingo game.
She is survived by her children Peggy (Tom) Foley, Bridgetown, Agnes McKenzie (Gill) Sydney, Arthur Jr., Port Hawkesbury, Bernie (Dorothy), Sydney, Doug (Jody), Windsor and Georgina, Sydney; daughter-in-law Marion and son-in-law Terry Lee; 14 grandchildren;16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Arthur, son Michael daughter, Anna Lee, grandson, Terrence Lee Jr; great-grandson, Thomas Patrick Bennett.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, June 11, 10 a.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Burial at a later date in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Mema’s memory are suggested to the Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of choice.
