It is with great sadness that we, the family regret to announce the passing of John ‘Tossie’ MacQueen, at the age of 84 years, on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Tossie was the son of the late Angus and Sadie (Spears) MacQueen.
Tossie was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
In early years, Tossie was employed with CJCB Television and prior to retirement in 1982, he was owner and operator of Able Signs Writers in Sydney. Tossie will be missed by all who knew him.
Left behind to mourn are Tossie’s three sons, Billy, David and Darren (Michelene); two grandchildren, Molly and Lauchie; two great-granddaughters, Carmen and Maya; special friend and companion, Donna Williams; sister, Lena ‘Bunny’ MacDougall, Brockton, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tossie was predeceased by his loving wife, Ada (Bulter) MacQueen, sister, Mary ‘Penny’ Dean and brothers, Arnold, Murray, Dougie and Carl.
As per Tossie’s request, his body was donated to medical science at Dalhousie University, Halifax. Memorial service to celebrate the life of John ‘Tossie’ MacQueen will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, Whitney Pier. Following the service light refreshments will be held in the funeral home reception area.
Donations in memory of Tossie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
