Gerald Moston

Passed on: June 9th, 2016

The city of Moose Jaw lost a long time citizen and pillar of the community when Gerald (Gerry) Carl Moston passed away June 9, 2016 at the age of 96. Gerry was born at Shoal Lake, MB on May 8, 1920. Gerry served overseas during WWII. Upon return from the War, Gerry married Mary Kubak in 1946. He began a career as a Transport Manager with Maccam Transport (later TriMac), and later with Fairford Industries until his retirement. Gerry was a founding member of the Sheltered Workshop (now Diversified Services), and volunteered for many events related to the Moose Jaw Lions Band, music festivals, and fundraising. He was very active with the Royal Canadian Legion, serving with the provincial council, and was branch president for 5 years. He served as District Commander, Zone Commander, and received a Meritorious Service Award, the Legion’s Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Medal (1986), the Palm Leaf Award (1992), and was inducted as a lifetime member in 1969. Gerry was instrumental in the changes to how the Legion Remembrance Day Service was conducted, eventually moving the services indoors to the Civic Centre. He and Mary started the Legion bingo nights and kept them running for 35 years. Gerry will be sadly missed by son Robert Moston – Medicine Hat, daughter Patricia Givens – Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Terry Moston, Ron Moston, Elliott Chenger, and Jacquelyn Chenger Jamjoom; and three great-grandchildren Justin, Jordan, and Jayden Moston. Numerous friends and colleagues will feel his absence at coffee shops and gathering places all around the city. The Memorial Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday June 13, 2016 at 10:00 am. Padre Doug Shepherd will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Royal Canadian Legion Rites will be conducted by Chuck MacMillan. For those so wishing, memorial donations to the Legion Poppy Fund, would be appreciated. In living memory of Gerry, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
