Mary Ruth (Hamilton) Mercer

Passed in: Sydney

On Friday, June 10, 2016, we lost a beautiful mother who was a fun, kind woman, loved to laugh and in her day, to dance, especially the limbo.
Mom was the daughter to the late William and Emily Rose ‘Doll’ Hamilton.
She is survived by her four children, Lois (Paul) King, Les (Linda), Sandy (Valerie), Dorothy (Dave) Confiant; daughter-in-law Margaret Mercer; grandchildren, Rob, Mike Sandra, Les Jr., Leah, Ashley, Jordan, Whitney, Bryden, Darren, Dana and Lauren and many great-grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her husband ‘Bud’ Walter Mercer, her first husband Buster MacFadden, son John and daughter-in-law Sally and sisters Viola Moore, Hazel DeYoung, Eileen Ferris, brothers Thomas, Theadore, Johnny and Walter in infancy.
Mom was employed at the State Street Bank in Boston and finished her career at the City Hospital with her buddy Helen Wadden.
She enjoyed many days on Union Street, barbecues, and hanging out with ‘The Step Sisters’ who loved mom very much.
Mom resided at the MacGillivray Guest Home for the last six years. Thanks to the kitchen staff where she enjoyed all her meals, laundry and housekeeping who enjoyed many laughs with mom. Recreation, nurses and CCAs who took such great care of her and appreciated mom’s sense of humour. She was loved by all of these fantastic group of friends.
Thanks to Father Lloyd Dwyer for Mom’s final farewell service at the home and also all the residents and management.
Mom was a great mother and we will certainly miss her kind smile.
Visitation will be held Monday June 13, 2016 7-9 p.m., and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday in Sydney Memorial Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment will take place at Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
