Robert Arnold "Bob" Gogan

Gogan, Robert Arnold “Bob” – age 88, Truro passed away June 11, 2016 as the result of injuries received in a car accident. Born in River Hebert, he was a son of the late James and Mary (McManaman) Gogan. Bob graduated from the Normal College in 1950 and from Acadia University in 1957. He was a career educator and very proud of his former students. Bob had diverse interests in particular sports, music and community service. He excelled in hockey, softball, curling and showing his Morgan Horses. He was inducted into the Acadia Hockey Honour Roll and the Truro Sports Heritage Hall of Fame. In later years, he took great pleasure in watching his grandchildren participate in their various sports. Music was an important part of his life. He was previously involved with the Truro Novatones Barbershopers and was a tenor in St. James Male Choir. He also loved to listen to Dixieland jazz and music from the 40’s and 50’s.
Bob volunteered in many areas including past president of the Truro Kiwanis Club, the Truro Golden K, Truro Rotary Club, North River Recreation Association, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26 and many other activities too numerous to mention. He is survived by daughter, Connie (Stephen) Dennis; son, Robert “Bibs” (Faye Hayter); grandchildren, Olivia and Nicholas Dennis and Emma Gogan; siblings, Richard Gogan, Norma Maxwell and Bette Douglas. Also, companion Shirley Castle and Faye’s children, Shantara, Tyler and grandson Garrett; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Lynds) Gogan; sisters, Dorothy Gogan, Margaret Robichaud, Shirley Hubbard and Beverley Atkinson. The family wish to express thanks to the QEII Neurological Unit, EHS, Colchester East Hants Health Centre Palliative Care team, and Dr. Trevor Locke for his many years of care. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 16 from 1-2 pm followed by a memorial service at 2 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Dr. David Sutherland officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or a charity of choice. Interment at a later date.
