Bill Smith, originally of Dunville, Placentia Bay, passed peacefully away after a long and courageous battle with cancer (Multiple Myeloma) on Monday, June 13, 2016. Bill was predeceased by his parents William Peter and Mary Ann Smith, brothers Columbus and Mark, nephews Terry and Mike in-laws Joe and Ann Stamp, Brian and Bob Stamp. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife, caregiver and best friend, Wynann (Stamp) Smith. Bill also leaves to mourn his four beautiful daughters from his first marriage: Dana (Craig Janes), Krista (Todd Ryan), Melissa (Jason Karle) and Kimberly (Keith Tucker). He also leaves thirteen precious grandchildren: David, Lauren, Gillian, William, Nathaniel, Henry, Brianna, Makayla, Joshua, Adriana, Alexandra, Devon and Olivia. Also mourning their beloved brother are Ann Wilderman (Harold - deceased), Dee Walsh (Gerry - deceased), Gert DeMasi (Frank - deceased), John Smith (Anne), Dolly Vidal (Cam) and George Smith (Vivian), sisters-in-law Audrey Smith and Doris Smith and in-laws Gary Stamp, Paul Stamp (Darlene) and Joey Stamp (Karen) as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Bill was a well known musician, a talented sax player and singer who's musical career spanned five decades. Along with his brothers he was a proud member of the popular 60's and 70's band "The Midsounds" and also a longtime member of the Ducats Rock n Roll Band. One of his proudest moments of his musical career was when the Ducats were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Music NL. He was a long time employee of the Provincial Government Air Services Division and Dept. of Works Services and Transportation until his retirement in 1998. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 12-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Thursday, June 16th at 2 p.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist with cremation to follow. Special thanks go to all the health care providers that played an active roll in helping Bill over his many hurdles during his illnesses during the past six years, especially Dr. Debra Bergstrom, Pam Rutnik and ATP staff, ICU staff HSC (2011/2012), St. Clare's and the L.A. Miller Centre, Dr. Patrick O'Shea and staff of Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made in Bill's memory to Myeloma Canada, the Diabetes Association, the Pancreatic Association or to a charity of your choice.
