Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on June 12, 2016 after a lengthy illness, Edward Michael Oakley of St. John's, aged 73 years. Predeceased by his infant daughters Patti and Laurie; sisters Mary Aspell and Catherine (Kit) Morrissey; and brother Leo. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 55 years, Joan (nee Hickey); sons Ed Jr. (Gladys) and John; daughter Joanne (Rod) of Elk Point, AB; grandchildren Sasha (Corey), Christina (Danny), Kayleigh (Tim), Jonathan, Mitchell (Cora-Lee) and Bradley; great-grandchildren R.J., Madison and Cole. Also leaving to mourn his sisters Frances Abbott and Marg McDonald; brothers Jim (Ann) and Bill (Mary); as well as brothers-in-law Pat (Jenny) Hickey and Joe (Peg) Hickey; as well as special extended family members Connie Oakley, Norman Chafe and Ray Mulrooney Jr., and a large circle of relatives and friends. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, 4 West, as well as the staff of Caul's Funeral Home for their tremendous help in guiding us through this difficult time. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, on Tuesday from 6-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-9 pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday, June 16 from Basilica of St. John the Baptist at 9:30 am. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
