Mrs. Irene Thomas of Providence Place Moose Jaw passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 19, 2016 at the age of 96. Irene was born and raised in the Mossbank district and attended Mossbank School. Irene married Fred Thomas on June 8, 1941. They farmed together at Mossbank until they retired to Moose Jaw in 1978. Irene had a talent for crocheting, knitting and mastering new crafts. Her children and grandchildren were the recipients of many beautiful creations. She was also a devoted gardener. She took pride in her gardens and always had a plentiful harvest. Irene loved to have her family visit and enjoyed putting on a 'spread'. No one left Irene's house hungry or empty handed. Irene stayed in her house in Moose Jaw until she moved to Victoria Towers in 2008 and then to Providence Place in 2011. In her last few years, Irene cherished her visits to the coffee shop where she loved bottomless cups of coffee, french fries and ice cream. She was predeceased by her husband Fred, great-grandson Cole, one sister and two brothers. Irene is survived by her daughter Marlene (Peter) Weichel of Stony Plain, sons Doug (Lillian) of Regina and Gary (Delphine) of Regina, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on June 23, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W, Moose Jaw, SK with Reverend Bob Langdon officiating. Donation in memory of Irene to Providence Place, 100 2 Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1B8, would be appreciated.
