New Glasgow - Raymond Lawrence “Flea” MacMillan. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Lawrence “Flea” MacMillan on June 27, 2016 at home with his family.
Born on August 22, 1955, Raymond was a true Northender, a son of the late Ronald and Anna MacMillan.
He fought bravely over the last years of his life, never complaining and always keeping the spirits high of those around him. Raymond loved and was loved by his large family and many friends.
When not with his family, Raymond could be seen (or heard) teaching lessons around the pool and card tables at the Bombers Club, where he was a lifelong member. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading and cheering on his Montreal Canadiens. In his earlier years, he was known to be a good ball player, often stretching a shallow drive into a double.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lynne (Dalling); son, Shane (Tessa) MacMillan, Halifax; daughter, Alisha MacMillan, New Glasgow; sisters: Pat (Jeff) Young, Halifax; Jane (Jim) Guild, Halifax; Peggy (Joey) Irving, Pictou Landing; brothers: Doug (Diane), Jimmie (Cathy) and Robert (Arlene) MacMillan, all of New Glasgow; Ernie (Karen) MacMillan, Thorburn; and Stephen, Calgary. Also surviving are his father-in-law, Bert Dalling and sister-in-law, Lee Ann Dalling, New Glasgow, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Mildred Dalling.
Special thanks to Dr. Barclay, Dr. L. Wood, Dr. Kwasnik, Debbie Williams, Rhonda Langille and the staff of the Palliative Care and Chemo Dept. at the Aberdeen Hospital, and the VON.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 pm Thursday in Trinity United Church, with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery, Pictou. Reception to follow the burial at the Bombers Club. Family flowers only please.
Donations are gratefully accepted in Raymond’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care or SPCA.
