Black Point – Michael Nowlan. With great sadness, after four years of bravery, strength, and perseverance, Michael passed peacefully at his Black Point home and sanctuary, on July 2nd, 2016, surrounded by family and views of nature.
They broke the mold when they made Mikey. He was a true Maritimer. Born in Kentville, November 27th, 1956 and raised in New Glasgow, he had a lifelong fondness of the Annapolis Valley and his beloved Pictou County. He was a steward of nature and a passionate outdoorsman; never missing a hunting season or fishing trip. His gardening and creative vision is his legacy. Family and friends enjoyed Michael’s engaging warmth and charm. His uncanny sense of humour put all at ease, until his final moments.
A Dalhousie University ’79 alum, Michael went on to find his career with Lawton’s Drugs for twenty-seven years, where he held senior positions as Director of Operations, Director of Merchandising, and Director of Business Development. Besides his many successes in all positions, Michael was instrumental in helping build the continuing care business where Lawton’s Drugs is now the market leader in Atlantic Canada, providing pharmacy services for thousands of residents in long-term care facilities. His fun-filled positive attitude, passion and love for all people, was the hallmark of his strong relationships with clients, work colleagues, and friends, who will miss him dearly.
Michael was a loving and supportive husband, father, family man, and friend. He was the son of the late Lloyd George Nowlan and Kathleen Patricia McGrath. He’s survived by his loving wife, Ann-Renee and their two daughters, Sarah-Emily (Kyle Moore) and Danielle-Marie; siblings, Gail (Wayne Murray), Jane (Gary Whittier), David (Tish Campbell), Paul (France Philly), and Colleen (Rand Kellock), and nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
We thank Dr. Stephen Couban and his dedicated team on Unit 8A/B of the QEII Centennial Building for their endless care.
Donations may be made in Michael’s memory to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada or Ducks Unlimited Canada.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, July 5th, 4-7pm at The Little Harbour Community Centre. Michael’s Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 6th, 1pm at 7371 Pictou Landing Road, Chance Harbour. He lived his life with no regrets. Come in colour. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca
