With heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of a dear father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, Reg Bona, age 72, on Saturday, July 2, 2016.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of Thelma (White) Bona and the late Victor Bona.
Reg worked as a forklift operator for Dominion Glass of Hamilton, Ont. He returned home to North Sydney following an accident that left Reg with some impairments. His disabilities did not stop him from giving & caring for others. He was a strong willed, kind and gentle guy with a great sense of humour. We loved him dearly, he will be missed.
He loved second hand shops, flea markets and yard sales. He couldn’t wait to share his treasures with those he loved. You knew he had a good day when you would see him coming with his wheel chair loaded down. Always a wave and a smile for everyone!
Reg is survived by his mother, Thelma; a son, Reginald White and granddaughter, Abigail, Ontario; seven sisters, Sylvia Reynolds and Betty Power (Pat Basker), both of North Sydney, Jeannie Reid (Chuck), Ontario, Midge Jones, California, Brenda Van Snick (Gary), New Brunswick, Yvonne (Terry Allen), Georges River, Elaine (Roddie Gerrow), Ironville; two brothers, Joe (Linda) and Jim (Marlene), both of Barrachois Harbour; brother-in-law, Reg MacDonald (Linda) also of Barrachois Harbour. Reg is also survived by his good friend, Bud Hardy.
Besides his father, Victor, he was predeceased by his paternal and maternal grandparents, brothers, Stevie and Johnny; a sister, Marina and a sister in infancy, Marlene; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Power and Richard Jones.
The family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to his sister Betty and Pat Basker for the unending care, support and love they provided for Reggie, we are truly grateful. Also, special thanks to the excellent care provided by his home care workers.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 9 – 11 a.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6 in the funeral home with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
