Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: June 30th, 2016

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our loving brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend, James Paul Cameron, at the age 66. Jimmy passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Stephen Gordon and Mary Hyacinth (Campbell) Cameron. He was a devoted member of the former St. John’s Church and more recently Holy Cross Church, both in Glace Bay.
Jimmy was employed with the Cape Breton Development Corp. until its closure in 2001, and more recently as a commissionaire, working as a security officer mainly at the Citizenship and Immigration buildings in Sydney. He had a great sense of humour and a very quick and dry wit. He enjoyed watching movies and playing his guitars; he could play anything that had strings on it; and was a very accomplished guitarist. Jimmy was a very quiet, gentle and sincere man who truly enjoyed all of the times and every event spent with his loving family and friends. He also enjoyed travelling, and he enjoyed his times spent in Halifax, where he made several friends when he lived there with his sister while recovering from a stroke.
Jimmy will be sadly missed by his loving brother, Greg, Ottawa; brothers-in-law, Reg MacIntyre, Matt Kerrigan, both of Halifax; nieces, Joanne, Halifax and Brianna, Ottawa; nephews, Andrew, Ottawa and Brian, Abu Dhabi; numerous cousins, great neighbors and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Marie Kerrigan and Jacqueline MacIntyre.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 pm. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Immediately following the funeral mass, all are invited to join Jimmy’s family at a reception in the church hall. Following the reception, interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Family flowers only, memorial donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
