Dorothy MacKenzie

With admiration for a life well lived and sadness for a life now passed, the family of Dorothy Louise MacKenzie (Munro) are sad to announce her passing at the age of 92, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at her residence of ten years, Spencer Nursing Home.
Born on August 8, 1923 in Fredericton, she was the youngest of four children of David and Blanche Munro. She was a graduate of Fredericton High School where she was academically and athletically gifted, and a proud member of the badminton, track and field and basketball teams.
She met our Dad, Fraser, in grade 11 at FHS. They were married in 1943 and spent 57 loving years together. Six children followed, during a period when Dad’s CNR job took them to homes in Edmundston, Campbellton, New Glasgow, Toronto, and in 1958, Moncton. While raising her family and being a homemaker, Dorothy gave countless hours to Mount Royal United Church, as a UCW member, sitting on various committees and with a 40 year involvement in the church choir.
A reserved and modest woman, Dorothy will be lovingly remembered for her sense of humour, her quiet smiling nature and her will to live. She accepted her physical disability bravely and with amazing strength and courage, coped very well with her mobility limitations.
Dorothy is survived by her six children: Sally Norcott (Mike), David (Judy), Donna Bowlin, Heather Rabaey (late Maurice), Rod (Lynn) and Robert; grandchildren: Michael Norcott (Julie), Kelly Norcott, Corey MacKenzie (Krista), Sara MacKenzie, Matthew Bowlin, Michael Bowlin, Jeremy Muise (Kelly), Colin MacKenzie and Kristin MacKenzie. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Michael and Jordyn Norcott in Vancouver, Hunter and Kingston Muise in Fredericton and Lincoln MacKenzie in Dieppe.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fraser, in 2000; grandsons, Todd and Christopher Norcott; sister, Gert Freeman; brothers, Dr. Darrell Munro and Dr. Sterling Munro and son-in-law, Maurice Rabaey.
Visitation to be held Sunday, July 10, 2016, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) with service to follow at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Beverly Daley officiating. Interment will be held at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
