Sven Bergh May 22, 1922 – July 5, 2016 Sven passed away peacefully July 5, 2016 at Victoria Hospital at the age of 94. Sven came to Canada from Magnor, Norway in 1924, with his parents and sister, Marie. He went to school at Brancepeth. He only went to grade 8 and then started helping to do the farm work, driving a 4 horse team plowing and walking behind the harrows. He was never off the farm on any other job. He farmed until he was 85 years old. After his mother passed away in 1944, he kept on farming with his dad until he died in 1983. He married Mae Hansen in 1984 and they spent 23 years together. He rented the land out after she passed away. Sven played a few tunes on the harmonica, fiddle, and accordion; he had a small band and played for the old folks for a few years. Sven is survived by his 7 step-children: Heather, Wayne, Lyle, Joanne, & James Hansen, Debi Romanchuk, Lori Cooke, and their families; and 8 nieces and nephews: Verner, Ray, Allan, Terry, John, & Carl Hanson, Eva Austring, Edna Herd, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife: Mae; his sister and brother-in-law: Marie and Sam Hanson; his niece and her husband: Pauline and Colby McClure. The family wants to thank friend and neighbor Pete Nordli for his help and friendship over the years. Also thanks to the nurses and staff of the fifth and sixth floors at Victoria Hospital for their care, compassion, and to the staff of Weldon Country Villa during his stay there. In lieu of tributes, donations can be made to Weldon Country Villa, Birchview Nursing Home Auxiliary, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Birch Hills Lutheran Church - 2:00 pm with a luncheon to follow. Interment at Lake Park Lutheran Cemetery, Birch Hills, SK.
