It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Patricia MacDonald, age 77, after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, Patricia was the daughter of the late Patrick and Agnes (Courage) Axworthy.
Patricia was affectionately known as ‘Nan’ to all her family and friends. She loved the simple things in life and will be missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Reginald Donald MacDonald Jr., infant son, Francis; brother, David Axworthy and brother-in-law, Gerald Guillena.
Patricia will be sadly missed by daughter, Patricia MacDonald; son, Philip (Jody) MacDonald; granddaughter, Amanda Michelle MacDonald; sisters, Helen (Rheal) Duquette, Myrna Guillena and Carol (Rusty) Link; brothers, James (Marilyn) Axworthy and William (Celeste) Axworthy; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Roz) Hunt; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral service prayers to celebrate the life of Patricia MacDonald will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, July 9, 2016. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 6-8 p.m. with service prayers to follow at 8 p.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Patricia may be made to VON Cape Breton.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
