After a long and difficult battle, surrounded by his loving family, Dr. Anthony Genge succumbed to his illness at the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the age of 72 years. Tony was born in Deadman's Cove, on the Northern Peninsula, on October 25,1943. He is survived by his wife Sadie (nee Way) of 41 years, his son Neil, daughters Gina (Ian) and Laura (Zach) as well as his adoring grandchildren Poppy, Holden, Suzanna and Cordelia. Tony will be dearly missed by his brothers Robert (Clara), Cyril (Julie), and sister Sheila. Also left to mourn are his brothers and sisters in law, Gorvin, Shirley (Frank), Clyde, Eilleen, Donald (Linda), George (Christina) and Gregory (Dawn) and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and colleagues. Tony is predeceased by his father, Harrison, and mother, Susannah, as well as his brother Albert and sister in law Marie, his brother Charlie, brother in law Lambert, father in law John, mother in law Hazel, and sister in law Olive. Tony's family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at both Eastern and Western Health, especially to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit who provided exemplary care and comfort during this difficult time. Visitation will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cathedral on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11AM. with Arch Bishop Stewart Payne officiating. As per Tony's wishes, he will be laid to rest "back home" in Anchor Point. A gathering of family and friends will take place at St. Matthew's Anglican Church at 8 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 and a memorial service will take place at 11AM on Sunday, July 10, 2016. The interment will take place at St. Matthew's Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a blood donation at your local Canadian Blood Services or a donation to ALS and cancer research. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Country Haven Funeral Home, Corner Brook, 634-2500 and Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, 454-8535 (Levinia).
