Thomas "Jeff" Cogswell

Passed in: Kentville, Canada
Passed on: July 7th, 2016

COGSWELL, Thomas Jeffery Harding “Jeff” - We are saddened to advise you that our son Jeff passed away July 7, 2016 in Valley Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was the son of Tom (Betty) Cogswell and the late Jane Harding Cogswell who passed away when he was five months old. With the help of his older sister Tammy and his grandparents Ina & Floyd Cogswell and Jean &Jim Harding he enjoyed growing up in the Valley until his Father moved them to Sackville NB when he was seven. There with the help of his then stepmother Bonnie MacKenzie Cogswell, younger sister Kate, Jeff lived until graduating from Tantramar Regional High School where after working for a year at the local Save Easy, he went on to Confederation college in Thunder Bay Ontario where he graduated with his degree in Radio and TV broadcasting. Returning to Halifax N.S Jeff started his on air radio broadcasting career at various stations, his favourite being Q 104. After a two year stint in Saint John N.B where he hosted a morning show he returned to Halifax to do the morning show at Z103. As well as his on air career Jeff did the announcing at many major sporting events in Halifax including the Mens Briar championship, the World Junior Hockey championship as well as boxing and wrestling and martial arts. Jeff also started the first on-air golf talk show that was very successful. As an avid golfer he acted as a volunteer and later player in the SBI charity golf classic in support of Valley Child development, also as a sponsor, he remembers the year he won the longest drive contest. He also did some stand up comedy, once performing at Yuk Yuk’s in Toronto and along with some friends, hosted charity comedy fund raisers in the Maritimes. He really enjoyed performing at his old home town in Sackville NB. Jeff loved his career in radio and made many wonderful friends over the years which he always cherished. Growing up in Sackville Jeff was an avid sportsman, playing on provincial rep hockey and baseball teams and learned to play golf from his Dad who he could usually beat. After surviving a serious illness in 2013 he returned with his father and stepmom to Morden where they had retired, and after many challenges, loving care and good food, he returned to the radio business in Halifax for a brief period of time. After another setback he entered the real estate business but finally decided a move back to his roots in the Valley was a great place to turn his life around. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and today he went to be with his Mother Jane. Jeff is survived by his children Hannah and Nick (Big Digs) whom he loved dearly, their mother Nicole Coker. Also by his dad Tom (Betty) Cogswell, Morden; sister Tammy ( Rick) David and their daughter Grace, St. Catharines, Ontario; Kate Cogswell (Julie) and her mother Bonnie MacKenzie, Moncton NB; step brother Mark (Becky) Handley, Middleton and step sister Rhonda ( Dave ) Deveau, Auburn; many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. We would like to thank Dr. Peltekian, Dr. MacLeod, Dr. Bussey and Dr. Holly Zwicker in Halifax for their support and care. Also the staff and medical team at Valley Regional Hospital in Emergency, ICU and Medical A, Drs. MacLean, Mc Clure and nurse Tristan. Many thanks and God bless you all. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date. There will be no visitation or service as per Jeff's request. Jeff will be sadly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.
