Malcolm “Mel” Kelly - 88, of Grand Pré, Kings County, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a brief illness. Born in Grand Pré, he was the seventh son of the late Robert and Bessie (King) Kelly. He was employed as a labourer and worked with his brother, Roy for many years, doing whatever job came along. He had a great love for cats. They were his family and he had as many as 15 cats and many, many kittens. Mel was a good friend to everyone he met and could be seen all over Grand Pré on his bicycle, along with his brother, Roy. Wherever you saw one, you saw the other. Mel is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert Jr., Walter, Brent, Waldon, Vick, Gordon and Roy; a half-sister, Mrs. Jessie Guptill; a sister, Helen Luptin. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service and reception at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating. Burial took place in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pré. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, NS.
