The death occurred at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on Sunday, July 10, 2016, of Mabel MacKinnon (nee Simpson), beloved wife of the late Hugh MacKinnon, of Charlottetown and formerly of Pleasant Valley and Cavendish, in her 97th year. Mabel was the beloved mother of Gardiner (Ellen), Eleanor Stewart (William), Reg (Mary), Ron (Cathy), and Debbie Tweedy (Blair); cherished grandmother of Janice Graham (Ryan); Anna Axworthy-Campos (Fernando), and Valerie Axworthy (Rick White); Kent MacKinnon (Carolyn) and Marsha Karasiuk (Rod); Scott MacKinnon (Emily) and Kara “MacKinnon” Ryan; and Katelyn Godfrey (Rob) and Matthew, Jillian and Christiana Tweedy; great-grandmother of Rachel, Hugh, Kyler, Victor, Chad, Jeremy, Jake, Brooke, Kage, Lachlan, Samuel, Kailey, Keanna, Sawyer, Emma Marie and Addison; and great-great-grandmother of Jade and Orion. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Keizer (Lorne); and her sister-in-law, Lois Meehan. Besides her husband, Hugh, Mabel was predeceased by her two sons, George and Gary; grandson, Dean; granddaughter, Dawn; brother, Reg Simpson (Cora); parents, Jeremiah and Christianna (Stewart) Simpson; sisters-in-law, Ada Ford, Jennie Murray and Marie Matheson; and brothers-in-law, George and Armel MacKinnon. Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, for visitation on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at Zion Presbyterian Church, Charlottetown, on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Pleasant Valley Memorial Cemetery.
