It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of George Ambrose Donovan, age 84, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on Oct. 6, 1931, George was the son of the late William and Sarah (Wellman) Donovan. George was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed for many years as a furnace serviceman with Irving and then later with AAA Heating.
He loved animals, especially cats and was a frequent visitor at Tim Hortons enjoying his early morning coffee with his friends.
He is survived by his son, Joe (Anna) Donovan, North Sydney; three grandchildren, Tracey (Bob), Kelowna, Lisa (Jean Marc), Cole Harbour and Sean, at home; five great-grandchildren, Josh, Tristin, Owen, Angus and Jack and his sister, Violet Young, North Sydney. He will be missed by his Tim Horton buddies, Charlie Taylor, Peter MacLean and Earl MacKinnon.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Rhoda (Yorke) Donovan; his brother, William Donovan and sister, Kay Buchanan.
A funeral service for George will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
