It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Florence Marie Hartigan age 89, on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, VG Site, Halifax, surrounded by her family.
Marie was born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (MacDonald) Peck.
She received her early education in Sydney Mines later attended St. F.X. University, Antigonish. She was a long time resident of Shore Road, Sydney Mines, but in recent years resided in Halifax.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Mary Louise (Dennis Fris), Halifax, Brenda (Doug Campbell), Mississauga; her son, Gerard (Belinda) Hartigan, Halifax; one granddaughter, Jacqueline; a sister, Joan Ryan, Dartmouth; half-sister, Helen (Wayne) Middlekamp, Kelowna, BC; sister-in-law, Grace Peck, Sydney Mines.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, William Hartigan; her parents and step-mother, Lima Peck; brothers, Gerard, Brendon and Bernard Peck; sister-in-law, Jeanette Peck; brother-in-law, Leonard Ryan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Adrienne Watson and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital and VON. Also thanks to Marie’s friends and neighbors in the Halifax area and in Cape Breton for their visits and support.
A funeral mass for Marie will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care Unit, Victoria General Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
