Michael Kucik, age 75, of Ponteix, SK passed away July 7, 2016 at Ponteix,SK. The Memorial Mass Service was held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 18, 2016 from Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church with Father Guy Amedee Ainemon officiating. The organist was Claudette Begin. Life Tribute was presented by Sharon Kucik. Honorary Pallbearers were all who shared in his life and an honor guard was formed by members of the Royal Canadian Legion. The interment service took place at Notre Dame d'Auvergne Parish Cemetery. Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rollande (Nee; Carignan) children; Patrick (Rachel) Kucik, Sharon Kucik, Shawn (Simonne) Kucik and Colleen Leaney; grandchildren; Christopher, Codie, Nick, Haley, Derek, Chelsea, Tyler and Cody; great grandchildren Ryan and Ivy; brother John Kucik and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Maria Kucik, sister-in-law Agnes Kucik and numerous members of his wife's family. Mike was born on December 31, 1940 in Cadillac, SK. He was home schooled from grade 1 to 6 and then attended grade 7 and 8 in Cadillac. He was married to Rollande Carignan on April 17, 1963 at Ponteix Catholic Church. The couple farmed in the Ponteix from 1963 until 2002. He owned and operated Mike's Golden Glove Lounge from 1977 to 1979. He was a co-owner of Mountain Boy Chicken and Ribs from 1985 to 1988. Mike was Justice of the Peace for several years up to the age of 65. He was employed by the Town of Ponteix as landfill attended until his passing. Mike was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #297, Ponteix, Saskatchewan, Amateur Boxing Association and Ponteix Pirates Fastball Team. Mike's biggest interest was boxing. He taught all of his students discipline, respect and empowered them with confidence. He took all of his students under his wing and taught them so much more then how to fight. He taught them to live. He became very attached to his students. Mike was very proud of his children and his grandchildren and all they have accomplished. In 2008, Mike was voted one of the five most fascinating people in Southwest Saskatchewan and received an outstanding reward for this. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting with many of his friends, he loved to play cribbage and cards. He played fastball with the Ponteix Pirated for many years and they knew him as "Grandpa" as he was the oldest player and he played until his early fifties. All who knew him, knew that Mike could not say "No" to anyone and he helped many people in his lifetime. In his memory, memorial donations may be made to Kid Sport or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
