Marshall Lawrence Sangster
Born: April 2, 1947
Died: July 19, 2016
Marshall Lawrence Sangster 69, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on July 19, 2016 at the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in Antigonish, N.S, he was the son of Marshall Sangster & Edith (MacLeod) Sangster formerly of Piedmont, N.S.
Lawrence was predeceased by his father Marshall and his partner, Brenda (Charrier) Fraser, both whom he dearly loved.
Lawrence is survived by his mother, Edith; his three children, Tracy (Martin), Darren (Anna) and Michelle (Blake); four grandchildren, Molly, Madilynn, Lili-Anne and Malcolm; eleven brothers and sisters, Elmer, Jean, Wayne, Freddy, Alice, Noreen, Edith, Marilyn, Howard, Jimmy, Valerie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lawrence was a mechanic by trade. He held supervisory roles for the majority of his professional career with CN Railway (Halifax and Vancouver) and Nova Scotia Power (Stellarton) where he oversaw all operations in relation to the repair and maintenance of the companies’ fleet of vehicles. Prior to his retirement, Lawrence was also employed for a brief period as a welder at Trenton Works. He was a very dedicated, hard-working man.
Lawrence enjoyed the simple things in life; he loved nature and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He will be remembered amongst his hunting buddies for being a "crack shot" through "open sites". He was a great cook and made some of the best chowders and stews ever tasted. In his younger years he loved to spend time at "the camp" with his family. Some of Lawrence's most cherished memories were times spent with his father and brothers working on cars and hanging out down at "the barn", where they liked to have a smoke, a drink and tell stories.
Lawrence suffered from asthma and other respiratory illnesses. In 2010 his health began to decline significantly, causing him to spend a great deal of time in hospital. Despite his ongoing health challenges and daily suffering, you would rarely hear Lawrence complain. He was a true fighter, always managing to defy the odds that were stacked against him.....in recent years many referred to him as the "come-back kid"; this in itself was a true testament to the strong, resilient man that he was.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of High-Crest Home for providing Lawrence with exceptional care and friendship for the past four years. The family also extends their sincere appreciation to Dr. Monika Rowicka and her colleagues at the East Side Health Centre as well the Aberdeen Hospital, in particular emergency department and fourth floor personnel. Family is also very grateful to his longtime barber and friend, Steve Brown, who routinely made house calls. Last but not least, family would like to acknowledge and thank Lawrence's special friend, Rosalee MacEachern, for her unwavering support and friendship over the past few years.
A reception to celebrate Lawrence's life will be held for all who knew him on Wednesday July 27, 2016 from 6 pm - 9 pm at Summer Street Industries - New Glasgow N.S.

Lawrence was loved by all who knew him and he will never be forgotten.
