It is with regret, we announce the death of Joseph Daniel MacPherson, 82, who passed away peacefully on July 21, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born on April 4, 1934, in Big Pond Centre, he was the son of the late William and Annie (Gillis) MacPherson.
He was employed for over 40 years with Maritime Tel. and Tel. Joe is survived by Beth, his devoted and caring wife of 57 years. Although we shall miss his presence among us, all of our families lives have been enriched through our connection to him.
After raising a family on Newlands Avenue in Sydney, Joe and Beth built a family home in Big Pond Centre, where Joe enjoyed his retirement years on the Bras d'Or Lakes; boating, fishing, hunting and always finding something to occupy his time. Proud of his Scottish heritage, Joe was a man blessed with great integrity, who enjoyed recounting stories pertaining to earlier times that demonstrated his unique sense of humour.
Joe is also survived by his eight children: Diane MacPherson, Victoria, BC; Joe (Michelle), Sydney; Sandra (Mark) Hoole, Victoria, BC; Alan (Karen), Hammonds Plains, NS; Yvonne (Alex) Libbus, Sydney; Will (Laura), Sydney; Dana (Sean) Malloy, Cochrane, AB; Elizabeth (Rocky) DiBello, Stouffville, ON; fourteen grandchildren: Matthew, Bryan, Austin, Brook, Nicole, Connor, Kaleigh, Alicia, Jenna, Katelyn, Nicholas, Kennedy, Madison and Christian; and his remaining sibling: Marie MacEachen, Sydney.
Joe was predeceased by his brothers Billy and Hector, and sisters Sr. George Marie (CSM), Eunice, Minnie and Dorothy.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 24th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church in Big Pond at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 25th with Fr. Anthony O'Connor presiding and burial to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
