New Glasgow - Kathleen “Kay” Marie Muir (Hughes), of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, passed away on July 31, 2016 in the Parkstone Enhanced Care Facility in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Kay was a daughter of the late William and Mary (MacGillivray) Hughes and was one of 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by husband, Herbert, sons, Paul (Philomena) and Robert (Michele), brothers, Danny (Mary), Eddie, Jim (Ruth) and Ronald (Theresa), grandchildren, Garrett, Teagan, Alexandra, Stella and Grace, and great grandchildren, Ethan and Hazel. Kay was predeceased by brothers, Frank, John, Vince, Tony and Laurie, and sisters, Evelyn Chisholm and Theresa LeBlanc.
A woman of deep faith, kindness and selflessness, Kay was a devoted churchgoer and a long-standing member of the Catholic Women’s League, wherein she gave generously of her time and energy (and baked goods). Her family was of paramount importance to her; her quiet yet steady matriarchal influence was bountiful and will remain eternally. Kay will be fondly remembered as an accomplished skater and an avid square dancer, and her neighborhood card parties were legendary.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who contributed to Kay’s wellbeing over the years and, most specifically, the doctors, nurses, care workers and staff at The Parkstone, whose kindness and concern were unfailing.
A funeral service celebrating Kay’s life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, August 8, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Parish in New Glasgow, with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow.
Donations may be made in her name to the local chapter of Catholic Women’s League.
