Terrance Owen Goodwin

Goodwin, Terrance Owen, age 90 of Truro was received into the safe arms of Jesus on August 2, 2016 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 22, 1925 in Debert, he was a son of the late Calvin and Lillian (Matthews) Goodwin. He was a veteran of the Second World War having joined the army on May 19, 1942 where he was a dispatch rider and travelled to England, Germany, France, Belgium and Holland. His last posted position was in England and he retired from the army in 1946. He then worked for 18 years as a supervisor with Sobeys. Later he retired from Atlantic Wholesalers as a District Supervisor. He was a very devoted member of the Cornerstone Assembly, Bible Hill and came to be known as the “Gatekeeper” at the church. Terrance loved motorcycles and seemed to notice every bike on the road. He also enjoyed time spent at the cottage in Bass River and trips to Largo and Orlando in Florida. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by daughters, Donna Singer, Cheryl (Paul Hominick), all of Truro; son, Duane (Trudy) Onslow; sister, Wanda (Paul Comeau), Truro; daughter-in-law, Barbara, Truro; grandchildren, Gregory (Becky) Singer, Sheila (Mike Ketch), Kelly (Craig Fraser), Craig (Jocelyn) Hominick, Heidi (Andrew Doucette), Christopher Goodwin, Vicki Goodwin; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances; son, Larry; sister, Madeline Bigney; brothers, Bryce and Percy; son-in-law Ronald Singer. The family wish to express their thanks to Dr. Loshaj, Dr. Smith and the Palliative Care Unit and also to family and friends who have kept Terrance and his family in their prayers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4 from 6-8 pm beginning with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute service in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. A Funeral service will take place on Friday, Aug. 5 at 2 pm in Cornerstone Assembly, 14 Cornerstone Dr., Bible Hill with Rev. Natasha Matchett-DeVito and Rev. Michael Campbell officiating. Reception to follow the service. Interment in Middle Road Cemetery, Debert. Donations in his memory may be made to Cornerstone Assembly or the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society.
