It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend, Coreen Burton, age 62, on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Sheila (Whitman) Musgrave.
was a proud stay at home mom who took pleasure in caring for her family. She loved to read, play bingo and spent her summers picking strawberries at Hank’s Family Farm. She is survived by her loving husband, Jackie Burton; her daughters, Fawn Burton, Frenchvale, Sheila Burton (Kendal Smith) of Halifax and Crystal Haggerty (Steven) of Berwick, NS; by her grandchildren, Kaleb Burton and Jaklyn Smith; Byron Burton and her great granddaughter, Lillee; by her sisters, Glenda (Tom) Ball, Leitches Creek, Judy Campbell, Sydney, Cheryl (Joseph) MacNeil, Frenchvale, Wanda (Jamie) McGillivary, Balls Creek; her brothers, Robert Musgrave and Darren (Krista) Musgrave, both of Ball’s Creek and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, Babe Musgrave and George Musgrave. The family would like to thank Dr. Jensen and the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre for the care given to Coreen over the years, the Palliative Care staff at the hospital for their compassion and care during Coreen’s stay and a heartfelt thank you to our aunt, Judy Campbell for being there for our mother since the beginning of her diagnoses, you were Mom’s best friend through it all, always sitting by her side, we appreciate and love you for all that you did and could never thank you enough. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at St. Columba United Church in Leitches Creek with Rev. Donna Mills officiating.
Burial will follow in Calvin United Cemetery in Upper Leitches Creek.
