J. Felix Cyr

CYR, Joseph Felix - Age 87 of Pictou, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital August 9, 2016.
Born in House Harbour (Havre-aux-Maisons), Îles de la Madeleine on February 1, 1929, he was a son of the late Avila and Mathilda (Poirier) Cyr.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Huberte “Betty” (Oulette) Cyr; children, Linda (Mike) Rice, Inverness Co., Cape Breton; Diane (Robert) Snow, Pictou; George (Joann) Cyr, Trenton; Lise (Walter) Pettipas, Abercrombie; Pauline (Robbie) Marks, Lyons Brook; brothers, Eric (Nicole) and Fernand, Quebec; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Felix was predeceased by one sister, Yvette (Cyr) Thorne; three brothers, Jean-Paul, Jacques and Yvon.
His life work included 20 years as a Seaman Cook on the SS Madeline and the North Gaspé, between Îles de la Madeline, Prince Edward Island and Pictou, NS. Joining the Pictou Shipyards in the early 70’s as an Insulator, he worked there for 25 years, before retiring. He was also actively involved with the Stella Maris Catholic Church, Pictou and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Gerald MacKenzie Council 8608, Pictou.
Felix was strong in not only body and spirit, but in commitment as well, he loved his wife dearly, his children and all of his wonderful grandchildren. He loved life and all the good things that included, love, laughter, a good joke, good music and of course, good food. He may no longer be present in our lives to share all these things that he loved so dearly, but he shall never be absent from our hearts or our thoughts.
Visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will take place 11 a.m. Saturday in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Diabetes Association.
