It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend, Arthena Brewer, age 79, on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at The Cape Breton Regional hospital. Born in Ingonish Beach on August 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Pearl (Hoskins) McGean. Arthena was a kind- hearted and compassionate lady. She was an excellent caregiver who cared for many members of her family in her home over the years. Arthena enjoyed her friends and was a regular at Indian beach in the summers listening to the music and entertainment. Arthena is survived by her daughters, Anna Lee Brewer (Kevin Skinner), Theresa Brewer and Nina Brewer all of North Sydney; her son, William Brewer; her grandchildren, Brett, Brendan, Nekole; her sister-in-law, Anna McGean of North Sydney; special nephew, Wayne McGean and nieces, Georgie Hamm, Mary Lou Gracie and Cindy White. She was predeceased by her husband, John Brewer; by her brothers, Leo, John, George, Bill, Michael; sisters, Mary, Peggy and infant sister, Peggy. We would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses on 3A and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Abboud. Thank you also to Dr. Andrew Wawer, nursing and staff at the Northside Community Guest Home and to the Northside Homemakers. A private family service and burial took place on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or any charity.
