Gerritdeana "Deana" Hladnik

Gerritdeana "Deana" Elkink McIntosh Hladnik passed away peacefully, after a brief battle with cancer, with her family by her side, on July 31, 2016. Deana was born September 20, 1926, the 5th of 6 children, first generation Canadians, to Hank and Mana Elkink in Monarch AB. She grew up in Suffield AB and finished high school in Bestville SK. She then went to Regina and studied to be a Registered Nurse. After graduating in 1949, she moved to Cranbrook BC where she married Wilmer James McIntosh in 1950. In 1951 they moved to their farm west of Hazlet and raised their family. In 2006 they moved to Swift Current. After Willie's death, she eventually moved to the Bentley, where she met and married Carl Hladnik. Deana was predeceased by her parents, siblings and her first husband. She is survived by her sons, Mike (Wendy), Bob (Bonnie) and Scott (Deb); her daughter, Kelli (Blair); her grandkids, Missy, Tara (Mike), Chris, Cory, Connor, Emma and Mackenzie; her great-grandkids, Kennadee (Tyler) and Anna; and by her husband, Carl. As per Deana's wishes, a small, private, family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Deana may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina SK S4P 2R3. The family would like to thank the staff at the Bentley and the nurses and staff on the women's and children's ward at Cypress Regional Hospital for the wonderful care extended to Deana.
