Passed in: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: August 14th, 2016

POTTIER (née THIBAULT), Marie “Josephine” – 99, formerly of Tusket, passed away at the Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth, on August 14, 2016. Born in St. Joseph (Concession), Digby Co., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lina (Comeau) Thibault. She was surrounded, comforted and held by her family who shared her love and who brought her so much pride and joy. She is survived by her six children: Norman (Betty Anne), Hubert (Phyllis), Don (Barbara), all of Tusket; Roy of Gagetown, N.B., Barbara Anne (Bobby) LeBlanc of Dieppe, N.B., Joanne (Fred Owen) of Seattle, U.S.A., 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Agno (1966), her step-mother Catherine (1967), her sisters Rose, Catherine and Delima and her brothers Charles, Willie, Existe, Désiré and Amédée. After finishing public school in Concession, Josephine graduated from Normal College in Truro in June, 1936. The same year she started her teaching career at the Middle Belleville School. In 1937, she married Agno Pottier from Belleville North. During her teaching career of 34 years, Josephine taught school at the Belleville North School until it closed in 1959, then taught Elementary School at École Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau until her retirement in 1981. She was always a very active person, and the term “multi-tasking” fit her well. Aside from her teaching duties and raising six children, she operated the Belleville North Post Office from 1940 until 1970 and kept the small family farm operational during many difficult years (in 1963, she underwent a brain tumour operation but resumed her teaching duties the following year). She knew the value of hard work, and was not shy of instilling her ideals in others, be they her children or her students. In her retirement years, she enjoyed her flower garden, feeding the birds, making quilts, reading and traveling with her children. A devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was passionate about sending and receiving cards, always paying particular attention to the meaning and thought behind each and every word. Despite having endured numerous hardships during her long life, she always kept her faith and faced her challenges with remarkable courage and determination. “Mom, you may rest in peace now…we will always miss you”. Visitation was held Monday from 7-9 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Funeral service was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau Church, Rev. Albeni d’Entremont officiated. Burial followed in Ste- Anne-du-Ruisseau Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau Church Building Fund or any charity of your choice.
