With great sadness, we announce the passing of Marie Cecile Barkhouse, at the age of 94 on August 15th, 2016 at Seaview Manor surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late John and Marie Aucoin, born in Cheticamp. Marie enjoyed travelling, playing a good hand of 45's and spending time with friends at the Casino. Everyone was always welcomed with a good cup of tea and her homemade baked treats. She was a hard worker. In her later years she worked as a cook at Lingan Golf Club and was known as the Donut Queen at Milne's I.G.A. Marie was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 3 Ladies Auxiliary and Glace Bay Senior Pensioners Club.
She is survived by her daughters, Almina Gouthro (Raymond-deceased), Juniper Mtn., Elaine McDonald (Cyril), Glace Bay and sons, Wayne (Louise), Glace Bay, Fred (Helen), Antigonish. Also survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; step sisters, Ethel (Alex), Muriel (Philip) both of Ontario; step brother Clifford of Quebec and sister-in-law Yvette of Cheticamp. She was predeceased by her husband George; son, Roland; grandchild Diana; brothers, Joseph, Charlie; Sister Lucie; step brother James and step mother, Stella Aucoin.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation per her request. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann's Church, Glace Bay on Saturday, August 20th at 10 a.m. Father Leo Boone officiating. Interment to take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay and Richmond Villa, St. Peter's for her loving support and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Seaview Manor Recreation Dept. or a charity of your choice.
