AMHERST – Jean Eleanor Smith (nee Dunbar) RN Retired, of Amherst passed away on August 14, 2016 in Shinimicas. Born May 11, 1929 in Port Howe to the late John Fraser & Sarah A. (MacDonald) Dunbar.
Jean was the youngest of five sisters, all of whom were Nurses. She and her sister Sybil graduated in 1952 from Amherst Highland View Hospital. She was employed at the Highland view for all of her 30 years of nursing. She was Unit Manager of Pediatrics upon her retirement. Jean loved her home in Amherst and cottage at Heather's Beach where she spent many happy years with her late husband, Harold.
Jean is survived by her sister, Sybil Waugh of Amherst, several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Harold R. Smith, sisters, Margaret Corning, Christena Pierce and Mary Tully.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Furlong- Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, N.S. (902-667-8777). No visitation by request. A graveside service will be held at the Shinimicas United Church Cemetery on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Ruth Gamble DLM officiating.
