TRENTON – Lawrence Keith Glenn MacNeill, 74, Trenton, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Daniel John D. and Marion Edith (Peterson) MacNeill.
Lawrence attended St. John’s Academy and Trenton High School and was a formidable athlete during those years. Following high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force Police for several years. Following, he served as a police officer with the Town of Trenton and then became Chief of Police for the Town of Mulgrave. Prior to retirement in 1998, Lawrence was employed as a First Class Stationary Engineer with Nova Scotia Power, Trenton Generating Station.
He enjoyed spending time in his workshop working with stained glass and wood. Lawrence was a hard working person, who constantly strived to improve his family’s life.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; daughter, Lana (Tom) Davis, Westville; sons, Dean MacNeill, Cambridge, Ont.; Robert MacNeill, Avondale; stepsons, Thomas (Angela) Pennington, New Glasgow; Dale Pennington (Amy), Alma; sister, Dolores O’Connor, Truro; brothers Douglas (Patricia) MacNeill, Sarnia, Ont.; Edward (Lynn) MacNeill, Moncton, N.B.; sisters-in-law, Bertha MacNeill, New Glasgow; Georgette MacNeill, Ottawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Keith, Kari, Daina, Dustin, Kylie, Samantha, Jake, Brooke, Ali and Adam; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by sister, Edith (Bill) Peart; brothers Robert (Ruth), Wallace, Donald J.D. and William; nephew, Billy Peart.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow with Father Thomas MacNeil presiding.
No flowers please.
Donations may be made in Lawrence’s memory to Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
