FIANDER, Valda Mae, age 84-Died in Yarmouth Hospital surrounded by family on August 17, 2016. Valda enjoyed working at a variety of jobs, in particular she enjoyed her many years as a caregiver for geriatrics at the Villa St Joseph Du Lac until she retired. Valda’s primary role was being a mother, the center of her family. She adored her husband and raised a large family. She was proud of each and every one. She showed the ability to love, to forgive, and always saw the good in people. She lived a loving and giving life, especially to children, but essentially to anyone in need. Her children and grandchildren were her jewels, her riches, and she has been the strong link that has held us together. Born Oct 8, 1931 in Spring Haven, Yarmouth Co., daughter of Ben and Gertrude (Cook) Trefry. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Predeceased by her husband Captain Harold Fiander, daughter Cynthia, brothers Vernon, Alan, Earle, Maynard, Wallace; sisters Beryl, Ruby and Merlyn. Survived by her children: Veronica (Brian) Thibeault, Louise (James) Sullivan, Michael (Marilyn) Pothier, Dick (Rosemary) Pothier, Donna (Neil) Pothier, Harold (Kathie) Pothier, Danny (Kim) Fiander, Charlie (Maggie) Fiander, Lori (George) Eichhorn, Timmy (June) Fiander, Nancy (Ivan) Cottreau, Gail (Peter) Valji, Robert (Lisa) Fiander, Fred (Olga) Fiander, Elsie (Kenneth) Gray, Wally (Sarah) Fiander, Sherri Fiander, and MANY, MANY grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home. Visitation at Yarmouth Wesleyan Church Friday, August 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service Saturday, August 17 at Yarmouth Wesleyan Church, private interment followed at Town Point Cemetery, in Chebogue. Donations may be made to the Christmas Daddies Fund, Salvation Army Christmas Hamper Program or a charity of your choice.
