Laura Jean Ongo, 68 of Sydney, passed away Friday August 26th, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Jean (Oursin) Peters. Laura was a member of St. Alphonsus, New Victoria. She worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Sydney, then transferred to New Waterford where she retired as Assistant Manager. Laura loved her family and was always around to help others. She had a big heart and a great sense of humour. She enjoyed socializing with friends and having a good laugh. She is survived by her husband, Frank; sisters, Rose (Fred) Singer, Florida, Anna (Donnie) Holmes, New Glasgow; brothers, Robert (Carol), Howie Center, Francis (Mary), Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Elaine Ongo, Sydney and niece Sheri MacKinnon, Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Philip Ongo; mother-in-law, Clara Ongo and a nephew Darren MacKinnon. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2016, in Sydney Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m. with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Centre at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
