Raymond Jean Joseph Cherpin age 84 of Swift Current, SK passed away on August 25, 2016 at the Meadows. A Prayer service was held Monday, August 29, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel Of Warren's Funeral Home with Colleen Jensen Officiating.The Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church in Ponteix, SK with Father Guy Amedee Ainemon officiating. Pallbearers were Taylor Laturnus, Cody Cherpin, Kyle Cherpin, Ethan Cherpin, Curtis Jorgensen, Karter Amundson, Andrew Cherpin, Dusty Cherpin, and Joey Cherpin. Cross Bearer was Logan Amundson and ushers were Nicole Laturnus, Jessica Cherpin and Jasmine Cherpin. The interment service was held from the Ponteix Parish Cemetery. Raymond is survived by his children Cecile (Darryl) Amundson and their children Logan and Karter, Suzanne (Calvin) Frederick, Roxanne Cherpin, Eva (Darren) Mastel and their children Cody, Kyle, Jessica and Joey, Louis (Luanne) Cherpin and their children Curtis (Amy) Jorgensen, Joey, Andrew and Dusty, Emile (Tonia)Cherpin and their children Jasmine and Ethan, and Yvette (Myles) Laturnus and their children Taylor (Cheyanne) and Nicole; great-grandchildren Maisy and Kaydon; sister Rosa Cancade; brother Armand Cherpin; brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Marie; parents Marius and Marie Louise Cherpin; sister Madeleine DeVreese; and brothers Joseph and Alphonse. Raymond was born in Souris Valley on September 6, 1931 and attended Bourassa and St. Oliver schools. He married Marie Dumonceaux on November 11, 1963 in Ponteix, SK. He held a number of jobs including farming, janitorial work, and general labour. Raymond enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his time with his 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. No matter where Raymond was or who he was with he always had the biggest smile on his face. His laugh was so contagious that you couldn't help but smile. Anyone that came for a visit was welcomed through the door and offered either a coffee or a good shot of whiskey. By the time the grandchildren were of talking age, they knew at least one word in French. It may not have been a nice word but at least it was a word. He will forever be known as our ol' Cougar.
