Laurence Dodge ROGERS

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Laurence Dodge Rogers age 87 of Amherst, Nova Scotia, announce his peaceful passing with family by his side on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, Nova Scotia.
Born October 24, 1928, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, he was the eldest son of the late LaFayette and Evelyn (Dodge) Rogers. After graduating with a certificate in machine shop practice from Saint John Vocational School, he first worked on the Trans-Canada Highway construction project during the Newfoundland post-Confederation era. He married his wife, Muriel (Finnemore), in 1952 and moved to Amherst the following year to begin what would become a life-long career as a tool and die maker at Robb Engineering Works. He will be remembered by those who knew him well for his uncanny ability to devise all kinds of jigs and gadgets from wood and metal.
He is survived by his sons Laurie (Kirsten Goodman) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and Keith (Bill Kelly) of Amherst, Nova Scotia; grandchildren Gregory of Toronto, Ontario, and Julia of Montreal, Quebec; sister Marjory (Allan Donaldson) of Fredericton, New Brunswick; and brother Clair (Mae Howe) of Hanover, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife Muriel and parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church Street, Amherst. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 1 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nigel Weaver officiating. Interment will take place at the Amherst Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Laurence’s memory may be made to East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice.
