Norman Alexander MacQueen, 92, of Sydney Mines, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines on September 14, 1923, he was the son of the late Donald John and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) MacQueen. A lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, Norman was a faithful elder in the Gospel Hall on Yorke St. He spent his entire life serving his Lord and Saviour. Dad retired from Devco after a lifetime career as a machinist and in later years with security. A true gentleman, Dad had a kind heart and sunny disposition, always looking at the bright side of life. We will miss our gentle giant. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Bailey), a love story that endured for 67 years. Dad is lovingly remembered by daughters, Beth (Keith) MacIsaac, Sandra Brown, Marni (Ed) Sheffield, and Norma (Paul) MacQueen- Gale, as well as his sisters, Beth Scott and Lois Caldwell. He was blessed with grandchildren, Mary Beth, Joel, Kyle, Norman James, Leah, Lori Beth, Ashley, Amanda and their families, as well as several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a special nephew, Wayne MacQueen. Besides his parents, Norman was predeceased by his son, John; infant son, Donald John; grandson, Aaron; twin brother, James and sisters, Kaye and Marnie. Visitation for Norman MacQueen will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. His funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Gospel Hall, Yorke St., Sydney Mines, with Joe Bernon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sydney Mines Food Bank.
