Shirley Holbein

Passed on: September 27th, 2016

Shirley May Holbein Nee Penna: It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce that our beautiful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 78, on August, 27, 2016 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Shirley was born June 27, 1938, to Elsie (Numrich) and William Penna in Kincaid, Saskatchewan. After high school she attended Marvel Hairdressing School in Regina, then took her first job at Balcarres, Saskatchewan. She married John Earl Holbein on June 30, 1962. The union was blessed with her seven favorite children, Janet, Kim, Karey, Jim, Wade, Shelley and Gaylord (George). Living on the farm brought mom great joy and a sense of pride; there is nothing that she loved more than being outdoors alongside her husband and children. Many great memories came from the farm and we always loved mom's stories of the old station house in Mankota. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her undying love and pride in her family. Mom was an upbeat, happy go lucky lady who always found the positive in everything, despite her lifelong battle with severe rheumatoid arthritis. Shirley is survived by her seven beloved children, numerous grandchildren as well as great grandchildren: Janet (Richard), Reade (Joanne) Levi, Ayden, Paytence, Holden, Shayden (Amber) Taylor, Nateayia, Kaitlynn (Cody), Kim (Theresa), Jory (Frances), Jacy (Cody), Jayleen, Karey, Shandalee, Ryley, Jordan, Shirleen (Mike), Liam, Rhae-lyn, Logan (Alyssa), Jim (Kelly), Kyle, Jesse, Blayze, Wade (Connie), Hope, Ryann, Maysen, Blake, Shelley (Todd), Britany (Mark), Emmett, Laynn, Kristian, George (Sheila), Braie, Porter, Kieran, Mowatt, brother Wallace (Wilda), brother George(Donna), uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her father William Penna, mother Elsie (Numrich) Penna, husband John Earl Holbein in 1989, brother Edward Penna, sister Carol Handbury, sisters-in-law Jean Cochrane and Evelyn Helsel, brother-in-law Bernard Holbein. Mom dedicated her married life to raising her children, instilling in each of them a great love for their families. She went out of her way to pinpoint a unique trait in each person she encountered, making that person feel special. Mom will be going home to be laid to rest with her Mom and Dad, something that is fitting for her as she has always been a true Daddy's girl. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 1738 Quebec Avenue, Saskatoon SK S7K 1V9, The Arthritis Society, 110, 2550 12th Avenue, Regina SK S4P 3X1, or the Kidney Foundation of Canada Saskatchewan Branch, 1, 2217 Hanselman CRT, Saskatoon SK, S7L 6A8. Warren's Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
