Allan David Newell
February 20, 1957 – September 2, 2016
Newell, Allan David – 59, Salmon River, passed away in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on September 2, 2016 with family at his side after a courageous battle with lung cancer and acute pulmonary fibrosis.
Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Morris and Ella (Heisler) Newell. Allan was a well-respected, skilled carpenter and building contractor in the Truro area for many years. Allan’s carpentry skills took him to Bermuda and all across Canada. Allan loved spontaneous adventures with family, along with his love of music and the art of storytelling.
Allan is survived by his loving spouse, Laurie Clyke; daughters, Katie Oster (Anton), Maxine Newell (Trevor Hebb); grandchildren, Skylyn, Tenley and Isla; siblings, Joan (Gordon) Weatherby, John (Joan) Smith, Eric (Thelma) Newell; sisters in law, Opal Newell, Donna Stewart; special nephew, Peter Newell (Sarah) as well as many nieces and nephews; honourary son and good neighbour, Shaun Gates; mother of his daughters, Sheila Newell.
Besides his parents, Allan was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Roy and Peter in infancy.
In Keeping with Allan’s wishes, Cremation has taken place. Although there will be no Funeral Service, all are welcome to join in celebrating his life at a Memorial Visitation which will be held on Saturday, September 10 from 2-4pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Family flowers only. Donations honouring Allan’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or charity of choice.
