Margaret Mary MacDonald

With sadness we the family announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Margaret Mary (McAlister) MacDonald on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016 in the presence and love of her children, grandchildren, sister and brother. Born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Charles and Isabella (Williamson) McAlister, Mom attended school in Michigan, graduating with her RN from Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital where she met her late husband of 50 years, Dr. Harold S. “Lefty” MacDonald. Together they raised a large family of seven. Mom was well loved by all and was the happiest with a house full of friends and family. Mom had a circle of Cape Breton friends whom she loved dearly and they shared so much laughter and a few tears over the years. Many have gone on ahead. To those who remain, she shall miss you until you meet again. Mourning her loss are children, Brian (Deborah), Shaun (Alana), Kathleen, Bruce (Suzannah), Brendan, Timothy (JoAnne) and Patricia (Kevin); sister, Kathleen and brothers, Des (Marguerite) and Pat (Carol), as well as Lefty`s remaining siblings, Marie (Mike), Bruce (late Kay), Joan (late George) and Gen (Duke); much loved grandchildren, Liam, Brian, Brendan, Erin (Lance), Andrew, Katie, Patrick, Charles, Emily, Lucy, Bruce, Shannan, Tim, Daniel (Jacqi), Sean, Meaghan and Erin; great grandchildren, twins Maeve Margaret and Kenna Marie; many nieces and nephews. Mom lived a full and happy life and will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank Drs. Carol Critchley, Ann Francis D’ Intino, Ron MacCormick and Micheal Biddulph, the staff of the An Cala unit and all other health care providers for the exceptional care and compassion shown to our mother during her illness.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, September 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life will be held Friday, September 9 at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay.
