ROMUALD (ROMEO) PIERRE BOURASSA
September 10, 1927 – September 6, 2016
Romeo passed away peacefully at Spruce Manor Special Care Home in Dalmeny, SK, just four days before his 89th birthday. He was a pleasant and well liked man, and will be fondly remembered and missed by his family, friends and caregivers. He was a hardworking family man and a devoted husband. He survived many battles with various kinds of cancer until he was finally taken, basically, by old age. This, after being given six months to live while still in his early 50’s. He was born in Radville, SK. His family moved north with short stays in Debden, then Mildred, SK, and finally moving onto the farm between Mildred and Spiritwood when Romeo was about 7 years old. He left home at 14 years of age to work various jobs as a farmhand, in lumber and saw mills, and in a creamery. When he was about 19 years old, he and a friend went by train with a threshing crew to Hull, QC. It was one of the highlights of his life. He often mentioned this excursion, which included going to see the parliament buildings in Ottawa, just across the river from Hull. He met his future wife, Clara, in Prince Albert. After they married they lived a short time in Shellbrook, then moved back to Prince Albert where they started a family and purchased a home. Romeo lived in that house for 60 years. It was a small house and he added many additions over the years. He spent many years working in the plaster and stucco trade, finishing his career at North Park Center across the river and at the Holy Family Hospital. Romeo and Clara spent many happy days fishing and camping with their family in northern Saskatchewan. After he retired they had a few wonderful bus trips to Nashville and the Maritimes, and an Alaskan cruise. They also enjoyed a trip to Disneyland. He made knives for a hobby and spent many enjoyable hours reading and listening to country music. After a heart attack, he spent 4 years in a private care home in Saskatoon and his last year was spent in a special care home in Dalmeny. Romeo is survived by his loving family, his daughter, Jeanette Lucyshyn of Saskatoon; two sons, Maurice of Prince Albert and Neal (Olga) of Edmonton, AB; six grandchildren, Danica Lucyshyn, Melanie (Jerry) Smoot, Suzanne Bourassa, Carolyn Bourassa, Dennis Wojcichowsky and Anna-Klara Bourassa; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine (Gene) of Chemainus, BC and Juliette (Jack) of Port Alberni, BC; and two brothers, Armand (Laverne) Bourassa of Prince Albert, SK and George (Judith) Bourassa of Port Alberni, BC. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 58 1/2 years, Clara; his parents, Antoinette and Doria Bourassa; his sister, Adrienne Matte; and his brothers, Paul, Louis, Léon and André. A funeral service will be held for Romeo at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Father Roque Concepcion officiating. Interment will follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Memorial Chapel, Colette Harnett, Funeral Director.
