Elsie Ellis passed away August 25, 2016 at the Prairie View Health Care Centre in Mankota, SK. She was born June 11, 1918 at the Barager homestead. She was the 7th child of Elizabeth and Bidwell Barager. Predeceased by 3 sisters, 5 brothers, her son Bob, grandson Danny Williams and great-granddaughter Angel Kruger, Elsie leaves to mourn her husband Norman of 66 years, daughters Annie (Wayne) Lowes, Joan (Gordon) Kruger, June (Pete) Stengler, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Elsie attended Reliance School. After her school years she left the homestead and went to work at Prairie Bags and various other jobs in Moose Jaw before returning back to Mankota. She worked at the Mankota Hospital and at other jobs such as housekeeping for various farmers in the area. She met Norman Ellis in 1949 and in 1950 they tied the knot. They remained on the Norman Ellis farm until 1974. They purchased a home and began a life of babysitting. She babysat for many families for many years. Elsie enjoyed her garden and fruit trees and she canned fruit and vegetables every year. She was an avid quilter and made many for her children, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also made quilts for many other people. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband Norman and danced at many communities around the area. She was a great baker of bread and buns also made chocolate candies for special occasions and family gatherings. Elsie made the best pies you would want to eat. A Celebration of Life service was held September 1, 2016 at the Mankota Agricultural Hall officiated by Ruby Sayers. A Tribute was given by grandson Darrin Kruger. Great-great-granddaughter Bradie Bourassa sang "Humble and Kind". The Urn Bearer was grandson Kevin Lowes. Interment was in Wallard Cemetery. Donations to the Prairie View Health Centre in memory of Elsie were gratefully accepted. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
