Lois Ryan

Passed on: September 9th, 2016

Most devoted, most trusted, and most loving mother, Lois RYAN, surrendered peacefully on Sept 9, 2016 after a brief, but hard fought battle with cancer. Lois grew up in St. John's, often affectionately recalling her youth living on Pine Bud Ave, playing along Rennie's River and proudly attending Bishop Spencer College. Lois trained as a nurse at the General Hospital School of Nursing in St. John's. In her later years, she devoted countless hours to Cochrane Street United Church supporting restoration efforts and outreach programs. She loved playing bridge and taught many of her friends to play. Even in her last days she selflessly worried about her children and all of the unfinished things she was leaving behind. Mom, it's time for you to rest now and stop worrying. We've got this. Your strength and love lives on in us; your children. We'll take care of each other. You have gone to a better, more peaceful place to join your loved ones who have gone before you. Lois is survived by her son Jonathan, daughter Gail (husband, Michel Okoh), Olivia and Zachary (grandchildren), Elizabeth Driscoll (sister in law), Janet Hoddinot (cousin), nieces and nephews. We all bid you a loving farewell; always to be remembered. Lois was predeceased by Rita Mae Driscoll (mother), Cyril Driscoll (father), Judy Nufer (sister) and Charles Driscoll (brother). Most heartfelt appreciation and thanks go out to my truest and best friend Karen and my Aunt Elizabeth who were both always there for Mom when I couldn't be. My brother and I would also like to give recognition to the special people who work on 6East at Clare's Mercy Hospital and on 3North at the Miller Center. Visitation will be at Barrett's Funeral Home on Hamilton Ave. on Monday, Sept 12, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm. Funeral service will be at Gower Street United Church on Tuesday, Sept 13, 2016 at 10:30am followed by burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on James Lane. Donations in our mother's memory can be made to her beloved Cochrane Street United Church, 81 Cochrane Street, St. John's, NL, A1C 3L7.
