Rexford Douglas Moore

Rexford Douglas Moore

After a long life, well lived, the family of Rexford Douglas Moore age 90, of Truro, wish to announce his peaceful passing on September 8th, 2016 surrounded by family at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Rex was born in Lockeport, Nova Scotia on January 9th, 1926 and was the elder son of the late John and Elivra (Corckum) Moore. Over the years Rex loved reminiscing and telling stories of his childhood years in Lockport where he attended the Lockeport School, (which at the time was a one room schoolhouse), played pond hockey, baseball and experienced life as a boy in small town Nova Scotia. Rex had a great memory and was quite an organized and focused chap. He could pull a fact out of his head or recite a poem that he learned years ago. He was an avid reader and loved learning new things. Rex proudly served with the Canadian Army from 1943-1946 after which he came to Truro. He was employed at Goodspeed/Millard in refrigeration sales and service and later worked for Electrical Distributers from where he retired.
It was in Truro where he met the love of his life, Shirley. Their married life of 66 years was rich with love and laughter. Rex was a community minded individual. He was an active member of the Pheonix Lodge 50 IOOF, having held the positions of Past Grand Master and Past Department Commander of the Atlantic Provinces; he was a dedicated member of the Truro and District Lions Club for 45 years and a long-time member and elder of the First United Church in Truro. He was particularly interested in and enjoyed committee work in all of the organizations in which he took part. In his retirement years Rex travelled with Shirley to several countries around the world. With his spare time he enjoyed being at the cottage and hunting and fishing with his great buddies at his camp. Rex was an honest, loyal, patient and devoted husband, father and friend and he will be fondly remembered by all of us as a fellow who loved a good debate, a good dance and a good book.
His is survived by his wife Shirley, three children, Brenda (Warren) Sutterland, Alberta, Bruce (Nancy) Moore, Truro and Carol (Harvey) Morrison, Truro, five grandchildren, Robert, Colin, Trevor, Sarah and Mary, and seven great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Carmen Moore, Lockport.
No visitation by family request. Funeral service will take place on Friday, Sept. 23rd at 2 pm in First United Church, Truro. Rev. Valery Kingsbury will officiate with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Rest in Peace Pa.
